A Man Stumbled Upon Something Weird And What He Discovered Has Amazed The World

Mammoths are now one of those extinct animals who are not in existence anymore, well that’s what extinction stands for. But ever wondered what would you do if you happen to see a dinosaur’s egg in today’s times or an animal which you have never seen before. Well, that’s not exactly which could probably happen with you because the researchers are already wondering always and delving into the same field; unless you’re one of them.
Farmer Jose Antonio Nievas who hails from Carlos Spegazzini in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, was driving when he stopped his car and stepped out of it wondering what was that object he was able to see from a distance. Without any fear, he approached it and while coming back to his car, he had no idea that he had made a wonderful discovery.
Read on to know what he stumbled upon? And, who knows you can be the next Jose.

At first, it seemed like a massive stone or a dinosaur’s egg.
Finding an ancient shell of glyptodonts which became extinct at the end of the last ice age is not an ordinary discovery. Also, a few other megafaunal species including giant ground sloths vanished with the glyptodonts.

Experts assume that the shell which Jose found is relatively young with an approximate age of 10,000 years.
From a distance, the object had generated a lot of curiosity in Jose’s mind and that indeed led him to walk towards it in order to explore it. But, what he hadn’t imagined was that the automobile-size object he was looking at from far was a shell of an ancient animal.

The massive shell was partially covered with mud.
Speaking to AFP, Jose’s wife said, “My husband went out of the car and when he came back he said, “Hey, I just found an egg that looks like it came from a dinosaur.” We all laughed because we thought it was a joke.” Jose had discovered it in December 2015.

The news quickly spread across the globe and caught the interest of many.
As the word spread, experts came and examined the object, which they said was a glyptodont shell. Glyptodont was a large mammal which has now become extinct.
Alejandro Kramarz, a palaeontologist at the Bernadino Rivadavia Natural Sciences Museum, said, “There is no doubt that it looks like a glyptodont.”

Alejandro Kramarz told AFP:
“The animal became extinct thousands of years ago and it is very common to find their fossils in this region.”

Glyptodonts are the ancestors of modern-day armadillos.
These ancient animals grew up to a large size and had a shell that could weigh upto a ton.

This is what Earth Touch News has to say about the animals:
These strange mammals evolved over 18 million years ago in South America when the continent was an island and was separated from other landmasses. This isolation led to the evolution of not just glyptodonts, but also of terror birds, giant sloths and more. These animals inhabited various regions of South America for about tens of millions of years.
