Microsoft Finally Puts Breaks On The Production Of Kinect For Xbox Consoles

The first motion controlled Kinect technology was launched back in the year 2010. Which was sold separately with an Xbox 360 console, to provide a different gaming experience. Well it looks like Kinect wasn’t a successful product after all these years. As Microsoft admitted that Kinect is dead now by putting breaks on its manufacturing.

There are also reports showing a lot of investment in Microsoft Kinect. Where till now Microsoft have sold a staggering 35 million units of its Kinect device since November 2010. It’s not that Kinect was disliked by a lot of people. The idea of immersion is not the same when there is no actual thing to hold on to. Something like a controller that makes the player believe they are actually the ones controlling everything. Something that VR gaming have achieve but even they are controlled through hardware. While Kinect was more focused towards being a controller itself.

Aside from that Microsoft Kinect was mostly popular among hackers of the community. Who were trying to figure out more than one way to use Microsoft Kinect. To make Kinect more appealing Microsoft also tried a bunch of new ideas.  Including a bundled version of it, that was launched with the Xbox One. While on the Xbox One S console, Microsoft launched a separate version. That sure wasn’t pretty to look at.

Even though Microsoft Kinect was a failed product. The company have learned a lot from its experience. Which includes the recently launched Microsoft Holo-Lens a hardware that uses similar features just like on the Kinect. While Windows Hello also uses the same technology to help user login more securely into their computers. Whatever the case maybe, Microsoft Kinect was an interesting piece of tech. Maybe if Microsoft was able to keep all the promises that were made after it launch. Microsoft Kinect would have been a great product.

What do you think about Microsoft Kinect ?
