Flags are very important as they represent the country they’re assigned to. Although it may physically appear as just a piece of fabric, it symbolizes an entire nation.
The American represents three eternal principles: liberty, humanity and justice. The American flag is sacred to many of its citizens as it embodies American freedom. That’s why when Emily Lance decided to randomly share a video of herself urinating onto an American flag, numerous people were outraged.
One woman in Pennsylvania has reportedly received death threats.
All the threats came in shortly after she posted a video onto the Internet of herself urinating onto an American flag.
Lance originally posted the video onto her Facebook.
Her caption for the video was riddled with cursing words: “F*** your nationalism. F*** your country. F*** your stupid f****** flag.”
Of course, she couldn’t record the video without some mood music.
In the video, you can hear Night Moves by Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band playing faintly in the background.
As you could have expected, the video went viral almost instantly.
It wasn’t long until thousands of people online began posting infuriating comments at her for disrespecting both the nation and the flag.
Various people on social media threatened Lance’s life.
Some even made the suggestion that someone should slit her throat while others offered to pay actual money for someone to assassinate her.
According to another social media user someone even went to Craigslist to make a post about Lance.
The listing was supposedly posted onto Craigslist with a $3,000 bounty for her.
Others decided to play out their rage the old fashioned way: with insults.
Numerous comments on Facebook called her unpatriotic, disrespectful and offensive for urinating on something sacred as the American flag.
Others were even more specific with their insults than just single adjectives.
Some called Lance a “liberal extremist” and the product of “privileged white kids in this new generation.”
Some commenters accused her of recording the video purely for the attention.
They called Lance an “attention w****,” “worthless,” and said she had “no self respect” for herself.
As the video kept gaining more and more attention, Lance decided to explain why she recorded and shared the video.
“Freedom (of speech/expression) means that I’m entitled to do and say as I please, EVEN if you don’t like it,” she explained.
According to Lance, her actions are not as issue so long as she doesn’t physically hurt someone.
“So long as I am not physically hurting someone – and no, your precious feelings don’t count, that’s your own problem. What don’t you people understand?”
“You’re celebrating freedom while damning me for doing the same,” she further wrote.
“You can’t have it both ways. FREEDOM OR NONE. Practice what you preach or shut the f*** up.”
It seems as if Lance doesn’t comprehend how the American flag is a symbol of America itself.
“People are wishing illness, harm, and suffering upon me over a piece of fabric,” she later added. This just fueled more anger.
Obviously this is not the attention she thought she’d get when she uploaded the video.
“People are willing to MURDER someone over a flag. It’s so sad that people don’t realize how brainwashed they are.”
“I’m gross for peeing on a symbol? LOOK AT YOURSELVES. You people epitomize all that is foul,” she later added.
In a later Facebook post, Lance revealed that people had found out where her father works and began targeting him ever since the incident.
In the post, she tried to defend her father, claiming that he shouldn’t be a victim since his beliefs are different from hers.
“To whom it may concern, my Dad just called me and informed me that his place of employment has been targeted,” she wrote. “As has he. Interestingly he respects THE FLAG and loves your country.”
Recently, a retired Marine veteran described the way he felt about the US flag to Channel 5 News in Bristol, Tennessee:
“We just love our country and we want the best for it. And when people will respect the flags, they respect each other.”
Lance is a self-proclaimed anarchist. She believes September 11th was an “inside job.”
According to her Facebook profile, her interests include anarchism, marijuana, memes and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders.
Lance’s Facebook page has since been deleted.
Her video, however, has popped up in various sites and the comments
