Samsung just filed a new patent with KIPRIS, which is a South Korea trademark organization. This new patent from Samsung is regarding a fingerprint sensor that would be present on the front of future Samsung smartphones. Though this sensor from Samsung won’t be the usual home button sensor. Rather it would be embedded into the screen.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 were the two new offering this year. Which being great smartphones did ruin the user experience in one key area. That being the fingerprint sensor. Which instead of the front of the device like Samsung usually does. Was placed on the backside of the smartphone and even then on the most awkward position. That makes it really hard for users to register their fingerprints to unlock their devices.
There were also reports saying that Samsung was going to embed the fingerprint sensor in the displays of the Galaxy S8 and Note 8. But due to some issues, mainly being a un reliable technology at that time. Samsung skipped their plans and went with a backside fingerprint sensor instead.
Samsung is also currently working on improving the embedded fingerprint sensor. So that it would work just like a normal fingerprint sensor from within the smartphone display. Though there are also reports regarding Samsung, that the company might cancel plans for an embedded fingerprint sensor. And might go with something new like a Face scanner, something similar to the upcoming Apple iPhone X.
Whatever the case maybe, do expect the upcoming Galaxy S9 to come with an embedded fingerprint sensor. Because it would be something new that Samsung would offer to the market. Which would make an embedded fingerprint sensor event more exciting when it will first get announced.
What are you expecting from the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 next year?
