A new patent filled by Samsung was spotted recently. Which describes a new mat, which will support a more advanced way or charging a device. This includes both inductive and resonant charging modes. Something that will be suitable for all types of devices that currently support Qi wireless charging.
According to the patent description ”The power transmitting unit may include two induction coils in the magnetic induction method and a resonance coil in the magnetic resonance method. The first and second induction coils are intended to wirelessly supply power to the electronic device to be charged by the magnetic induction method, and the resonance coil is intended to wirelessly supply power to the electronic device to be charged by the magnetic resonance method’’.
This new patent from Samsung also resembles the AirPower wireless charging mat from Apple a lot. Which indeed also supports up to three devices at the same time for Qi wireless charging. But there seems to be a difference here as it also seems to be able to charge a Samsung smartwatch. Which does not support Qi wireless charging. Well it seems that Samsung is using a modified version of Qi wireless charring. That will also be able to charge a device wirelessly at a distance. Though it has a limit to it, which according to Samsung is around 7mm.
Apple generally is never the first to come up with a new technology. But it looks like Samsung was late to the party this time around. As the Korean giant is launching something similar to Apple with its patented Qi wireless charging mat. Which also includes a new form of Qi wireless charging known as resonant charging mode. Something that will truly be a wireless way of charging a device.
